The Methodist Book Concern owns a big handsome building on Broadway, whore denominational jourpals and books are published and where the magnates of the church have their headquarters. Bishops, missionaries, pastors, editors and influential laymen meet there, formally and informally, Close by is Taylor's restaurant, where the food and the' prices range high. Hut ihe traditional plainness of Methodism does not seem to call for abstemiousness in victuals, and for many years Taylor's has been tho favorite eating place for the leaders of that denomination. At times of the annual meetings of tho various committees an many as 50 to 1(10 of these clergymen have taken their dinners in the fashionable eating house. The last, general conference appointed two negroes on tho book committee. One of thorn is in attendance. He went with his fellow-churchmen to dine. He is a portly, well dressed, benign man, but his color is almost jet. The French waiter called tho attention of the head waiter to him and thou the proprietor was callod.
•'I am sorry to say that we cannot entertain you," said the proprietor to tho negro.
"Then none of us will eat here," said Dr. Buckley.
The whole party retired. Thoy passed -resolution to boycott tho establishment. The gourmets of "the Methodist Book Concern have in consequence divided their patronage among tho other restaurants in the neighborhood. It is a sore trial to their stomaehs, but their hearts aro involved iu the issue.— Vorrtapontlenet Chimgo Herald,
